Texts to Use for Instruction
While teaching this Literary Essay unit, we encourage you to return to literature with which the children are already familiar in Reading Workshop.  Reread selected excerpts and passages as an opportunity for close reading and discussion as the basis for meaningful writing.  

You may also decide to introduce some new picture books and short stories.  The "typed texts" below are based on many of the picture books readily found in your buildings.  We encourage you to share these typed texts with children after conducting a read-aloud where children can discuss the text, including the visual images.
